Pros and Cons of In-Ground Garden Beds:

Pros:

·        Cost: You do not have to buy material to build a bed which helps with lessening the cost. Also, since the soil is already in place there is less money spent buying soil.

·        Less Work: In ground garden beds need less work up front because you do not need to buy build anything or soil to start one.

·        Less Water: For most inground gardens you need less water because it is insulated by the surrounding ground.

Cons:

·        Drainage: It can be more difficult to control drainage for some gardens depending on the soil composition. This will cause the garden to take longer to warm up and dry out.

·        Weeds: In ground beds tend to have more weeds than raised beds.

·        Soil Amendments: Most in ground beds still need additional organic matter and amendments for drainage and balancing the ph.
